Contaminate NYC is pleased to present Beyond the Brambles, the inaugural Jersey City Outbreak exhibition, featuring media artist, designer, illustrator and animator Jade Kuei. The show to be held at the lovely furnishings and lifestyle shop Kanibal Home will open on July 23rd, 2010 at 7pm and will run until August 23rd, 2010.
Jade has made a name for herself in Jersey City as an animator and imaginative multi-media artist. Her shows have taken her as far as DUMBO while her head still remains in the clouds, trees or brambles in this case. She draws upon nature, her dreams and her 5-year-old son’s super powers for inspiration.
With gools and mumbots already adorning Kanibal Home’s walls and jewelry cases, Jade was a natural fit for this initiative kick off.

Jade Kuei (b. 1981) graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 2003, focusing on fine art and two-dimensional animation. Kuei is best known for her whimsical yet haunted illustrations, which are a direct abstraction of her own dreams and experiences. Additional information can be found at http://www.jadekuei.com/

As Contaminate continues to grow with each new event, so too must the way we communicate. Our mission “is to empower emerging artists, enabling them to expose their art to new environments”, as it reads from our “About Us” page. With this mission in mind, we not only want to focus on individuals we are working directly with, but we also want to expose fine artists, performing artist, musicians, and sometimes authors that we here at Contaminate find interesting; we plan on bringing the slightly less viewed and acknowledged art scene of New York to light.
Blog-Z will be the resource for everything cool, hip, and interesting going on in the world of New York art, music, and beyond. The plan is to merge our events, the artists we are personally behind, with other news and events that we find particularly unique. All with the fresh view that is special to Contaminate.
To achieve this goal, we have enlisted a slew of talented writers (artists in their own rite) to take on the duty of exposing the gems of the New York art scene. They will be sharing their experiences and thoughts on everything from theater to fine art to music, with a pizazz that you as reader expect from Contaminate NYC.
With the Jersey City Outbreak on the horizon, I would like to take this time to introduce two Jersey City writers that have joined our team.
First, Paul Cox. Paul is a freelance writer with a penchant for traveling. He has spent many moons down in South America covering the countries of Peru (his country of heritage), Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay. His girlfriend, Melanie Mclean, and himself eventually landed a job on the Delmarva Peninsula as travel writers after they were noticed for their blog chronicling their South American journey. Since then, Paul has established himself as a prominent Jersey City freelance writer, featured in such publications like the Jersey City Independent.
Second, there is Zac Clark. Zac is New Jersey’s rogue rock writer. In his own words, Zac likes his music and woman fast, and his drinks brown. He does not like ketchup! Zac has worked with the music scene in Jersey City for three years, following bands and reporting on shows and events, while keeping an eye of the growing art scene in Downtown Jersey City.
