Contaminate NYC and The Educational Alliance are pleased to present  Leisure, a group exhibition to be held at the Ernest Rubenstein Gallery. The show will open on July 8th, 2010 and will run until  July 28th, 2010.

The exhibition will showcase a selection of the most recent, original and sparkling artwork by international and local artists Andrew Coates, Cait O’Connor, Matt Gorrek, Claudia Trombin, Natalie Tyler, Lee Vasu, Evan Kirstein, Bess Sobota, David Rockwell, Diana Oberlander, Solange Umutoni and Gloria Duque.

Playful yet stylish sculptures, paintings depicting misty, dreamy and romantic atmospheres, photographs capturing colorful, shining and iconic images create a spontaneous and enjoyable show that tunes in perfectly with the no-haste, hot and lazy summer evenings.

The Educational Alliance
The Educational Alliance is a community-based organization offering a wide range of programs that integrate education, social services, arts and recreation throughout downtown Manhattan. We offer early childhood education, after school activities, sports and fitness, Jewish cultural events, literary programs, art classes, substance abuse counseling, meals for homeless adults, senior housing and so much more.

The Ernest Rubenstein Gallery and Art School
The Art School is a vital community art center providing instruction and cultural enrichment to people of all ages. In the gallery we present exhibits of emerging and established artist, distinguished alumni and artwork by students of the Art School, Young Artists Program and other educational programs of the Alliance.

Art Classes are offered in: ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, and welding. Adult summer classes begin June 21st and fall classes begin Sept. 27th. To find out about current classes for adults and youth (youth classes begin July 6th), please contact us or visit our website.  The Art School was started in 1895 to provide arts enrichment to young immigrants and neighborhood adolescents and adults. It soon became known for its quality program attracting people from all over the city. Among the artists who studied or taught here are Louise Nevelson, Adolph Gottlieb, Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Jules Olitski, Peter Blume, Chaim Gross, Philip Evergood, Ben Shahn and the Soyer brothers.

This exhibit is support in part with funds provided by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs
